The golden years

Very often people talk about the golden years of a person's life as those years when they are retired, have a tidy sum of money in the bank, good health and can afford to spend it in comfort till they finally call it a day on earth.

However, not all sail into the sunset (or heaven if you prefer) in such wonderful way. For example, my mother-in-law had to spend hers at the nursing home because she had stroke, was in coma and incapable of eating and drinking normally. She couldn't even sit. I had a small baby back then, and escape the duty of taking care of her. I can tell you that it is not easy to take care of a person in her condition.

That's why I have no problems with people who prefer to have their ageing parents in care home because it is better they have a comfortable stay, taken care by expert medical folks than to be at home and being a burden to the family.

If you have problems with guilts and how you should manage, why not check out the link I provided and read up some of the articles plus see if you can find a decent place for someone you loved.
