A dessert from the past

I took my two children to a tiny, old coffeeshop a few days ago. It brought back a flood of memories. Of the time when I was their age (around 10 years old) and my mom would bring me to this same coffeeshop.

We were very poor then and going there was a treat of a lifetime. Mom would order this dessert for me. It is shaved ice with icecream, jelly, sweet corn, sugar syrup and milk. It seems a lot nicer when I was 10 years old.

The coffeeshop is still the same, the shaved ice is still the same but something is missing. It is probably due to the fact that we can now afford as many bowls as we want. Life is a lot better but the magic is lost in the process.

Ironic of life, isn't it?
